High calibre expired explosives to be destroyed in Ogoniland

Rivers State Police Command has announced that approval has been granted to Halliburton Oil Services Company in Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt, to render safe and destroy some expired explosive materials in the company.

According to Ahmad Muhammad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, the Police Command Public Relations Officer, “The exercise will be executed by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, otherwise known as Anti-Bomb Squad of the Command on Thursday December 17, 2015 and Friday December 18,2015 between 8:00am – 4:00pm daily at the Police Training School, Nonwa-Tai.”

The Police enjoined that members of the public, particularly residents of Nonwa-Tai in Tai local Government area are hereby advised not to panic should they hear the deafening sounds from the exercise.

Nonwa-Tai is the host community to the Police training college in the state.

Approved explosives are used for seismic operations by oil exploration companies to scout for potential crude oil and gas deposits.
