The Kebbi Government on Friday reiterated its commitment to eradicate polio and other child killer diseases in the 21 local government areas of the state by ensuring that all children are immunised.

The Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Information and Culture, Alhaji Shuaibu Aliero, gave this assurance during a one-day media workshop organised by the ministry with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Birnin Kebbi.
Aliero said the state government would not relent in its efforts to ensure that all child killer diseases are eradicated in the state.
“We have no other work to do aside ensuring that our state is healthier, protected and developed.
“Our children are our future; their health is our state’s health, and our state’s health is our health, hence we will do everything humanly possible to combat any disease that will cripple their bright future,’’ he said.
The permanent secretary commended residents of the state for the support they accorded the polio immunisation programmes.
He urged them to ensure that they adequately patronise health facilities in the state, saying the facilities are built for their use.
The state Director of Information, Alhaji Garba Hamisu, called on journalists working in the state to rise up to the challenges of disseminating health and other vital information to the public.
Hamisu reminded the journalists that disseminating this information was part of their corporate social responsibilities in promoting the health sector in the state.
“Disseminate information that will promote the quality of our children’s health; do stories that are balanced, accurate and reliable that will encourage the state government and its partners to ensure that the health of our children improves and their future is assured,’’ he urged.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workshop was on the review of the state media work-plan and on the media partners’ commitment.
Also discussed were the role of the media in documenting human interest stories and programmes.
