Abducted bursar regains freedom, 3 suspects nabbed

The sustained pressures from security agencies and effective intelligence gathering have seen the freedom of the Bursar of Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic (KENPOLY) Bori, Rivers State, Mrs. Lilian Okorite Nkanbia-Davies, who was abducted on Monday on her way from work.

TheNEWS learnt that Mrs Nkanbia-Davies regained her freedom about 3 a.m today,while three suspects were nabbed with AK 47 rifle.

It was learnt the release of Mrs Nkanbia Davies, was due to sustained pressure from security agencies, a prominent Ex-militant leader in the area, Solomon Ndigbara, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, concerted efforts of the Khana Local Government council, the management of the Polytechnic other concerned Ogonis.

The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) KENPOLY chapter, Comrade Ferry Barineka Gberegbe who confirmed the release of the Bursar in the early hours of today said: “No single kobo was paid to get the Bursar released. What paid off was a sustained pressure on the kidnappers, cooperation from Solomon Ndigbara, effective intelligence gathering, security agencies, concerned Ogonis, the Khana local Government Council and ASUP, the Polytechnic management and others who vowed that no kobo would be paid as ransom to get her released.”ASUP chairman

The gunmen had trailed the bursar from the institution to Yeghe and Kpopie Junction in Gokana Local government of Rivers State where she was abducted.

Comrade Gberegbe earlier pleaded with the security agencies in the state to move into action to rescue the bursar, adding that the Polytechnic would assist the security agency to ensure that Mrs. Nkanbia-Davies is freed.

At the time of this report, the Rivers Police Command has not issued a statement concerning her release. Calls to the cell phone of Ahmad Muhammad, the Spokesman of the Rivers Police Command didn’t go through.

However, it had been confirmed that the suspects had be nabbed and an AK 47 has so far been recovered, while security dragnet has been spread to nab other fleeing suspects.
