Dr Victor Oye, the National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), says the party strongly believes in the unity of Nigeria.

Oye spoke on Tuesday in Awka at an event to mark his 60th birthday.

“The party believes in the unity of Nigeria, Nigerians must remain one and respect each others’ sensibilities anchored on equitable distribution of political offices and resources,” he said.

Oye said that the agitation for Biafra and other sundry agitations for self-rule were products of frustration, marginalisation and abandonment.

“The agitators were ventilating steam. The Igbos agitating for Biafra had been doing so without recourse to violence, killing and destruction because they believed in the sanctity of life,’’Oye said.

He said that APGA would field a candidate for the 2019 presidential election, adding that the party made a mistake by not fielding a candidate in the 2015 presidential election.

He described APGA as a party with clear cut ideology, and had moved from its regional colouration to a global movement.

Oye urged Nigerians to openly identify with the party, which he claimed is growing in leaps and bounds.

“The party is now firmly rooted in every nook and cranny of the country, formidable enough with mass followership to contest the number one office in 2019,’’he said.

He said that the emergence of Chief Willie Obiano as the governor of Anambra had turned things around in the state.

“Today, the state has grown from strength to strength, a product of the governor’s intellectual capacity,’’ he said. (NAN)
