The result is Scotland’s biggest win in competitive football since getting a 6-0 win over Faroe Islands almost a decade ago.

The wins for Germany and Scotland leaves both nations on 10 points apiece in second and third place respectively, behind Poland that plays at fourth placed Republic of Ireland later tonight.

Poland lead the group with 10 points, but visit an Irish side that could form a four-way tie for top spot in the group with a win over the Poles.

In other qualifying matches played on Sunday, Romania maintained top spot in Group F courtesy of a 1-0 win in Bucharest over second from bottom Faroe Islands.

With 13 points, the Romanians hold a one point lead on Northern Ireland that kept strengthened their chance of reaching next year’s competition in France with a 2-1 win at home to Finland.
