Former France international striker Nicolas Anelka has confirmed this morning via his twitter account that he will be playing in the Indian Super League for Mumbai City FC.

The 35-year old, who left Premier League club West Bromwich-Albion last year amid the quenelle gesture controversy in a match against West Ham United, tweeted “I’m pleased to join Mumbai City FC [and] very [excited to be] joining Indian Super League.”

Anelka further tweeted “Talented international players and top Indian talent will make matches thrilling affairs,” adding that “I look forward to using my ability to do well for my team in the matches we will play.”

The Frenchman becomes the second foreign player to join Mumbai City FC following the signing of German defender Manuel Friedrich.

Mumbai City will be Anelka’s 12th football club in an eventful career that has seen him ply his trade at Paris St. Germain, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool, Bolton Wanderers, Chelsea as well as Serie A giants Juventus.

The Indian Super League will be one of the top tier leagues in India alongside the L-league, and will feature eight franchise teams from all around India. The league will run from October to December, with a finals series determining the champion.
