The players and coach of Chelsea Football Club have not only proven that Paris St Germain is beatable but have also shown the Achilles heels of the French club. They have shown that PSG is a football giant with clay feet.
In a thrilling World Club Cup final, that put everyone on their toes for more than 90 minutes, Chelsea, who were the underdogs going into the match, thrashed the European champions 3-0, with goals from Cole Palmer in the 22nd and 30th minutes and Joao Pedro in the 43rd minute.
The question begging for an answer now is how the English side does what other clubs couldn’t do, both in the UEFA Champions League and the World Cup final? The answer is not far-fetched. Having watched how Paris Saint-Germain dominated other clubs, they learnt a lesson.
And that is: Do not give them half a chance. If you do, they will embarrass you, the way they demolished Real Madrid and other clubs.
So, right from the blast of the whistle, the English side went firing on all cylinders. They knew the French side was beatable, and that was why they never gave them any opportunity to play.
Everybody in the Chelsea team fought tooth and nail to defeat a side which many had thought was unbeatable – the attack, midfield, defence and goalkeeper(Sanchez), who made many important and daring saves.
Indeed, Chelsea’s coach, Enzo Maresca, has brought something new to the club, and that is a fighting spirit. Luis Enrique was left dumbfounded. He couldn’t believe his eyes.
The players and coach of Real Madrid football have learnt to Learn from this Chelsea team. They need to learn that before you can beat a tough side, you have to do two things: have a winning mentality and don’t give your opponent any chance.
This is what Chelsea has shown today. They made Dembele, Hakimi, and Nuno Mendes confused and out of place.
No team throughout the competition ever displayed the kind of determination, toughness and aggression that the team from England brought into the game. They went into the game with a winning mindset. And they demolished Paris Saint-Germain, the side which everyone had thought was unbeatable. And the rest, as the saying goes, is history.
