“O.K., Mr. Booth, I have a question for you,” Judge Mindy Glazer asked defendant Arthur Booth.

“Yes, ma’am,” Booth responded.

“Did you go to Nautilus? For middle school?” Judge Glazer asked, seemingly already knowing the answer.

Booth broke down in tears, repeating, “Oh my goodness, oh my goodness.”

According to NBC Miami, Booth was charged with burglary, grand theft, fleeing and resisting arrest.

Glazer, however, has fonder memories of her childhood friend.

“I’m sorry to see you there. I always wondered what happened to you, sir,” Glazer said. “This was the nicest kid in middle school, he was the best kid in middle school. I used to play football with him, all the kids, and look what has happened.”

As Booth sobbed, Glazer quipped about how old they’ve both become.

“Good luck to you sir,” she said. “I hope you are able to come out of this O.K. and just lead a lawful life.”

The case is similar to an August 2010 report by saultstar.com, entitled “Judge Recognizes Old School Mate in Court”.

Anthony Vagnini, according to the report, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and breach of an undertaking (for not remaining in Sudbury-Manitoulin district.

The 52-year-old man was arrested after city police stopped a vehicle in the downtown area where they were conducting surveillance of a “drug house.’’

Federal prosecutor Marty Pawelek had just about finished reciting the facts surrounding the arrest when Ontario Court Justice Andrew Buttazzoni stopped him.

The judge wanted to know where Vagnini had gone to high school.

It turned out both men had attended the same high school— St. Charles College in Sudbury.

“I haven’t seen him since 1977,’’ Buttazzoni told duty counsel Stacey Tijerina.

After speaking with the accused, Tijerina said Vagnini had no problem with Buttazzoni hearing the matter.

A Crown-defence joint sentencing submission of 20 days jail (less credit for the three days spent in custody on the charges) was imposed by Buttazzoni.

“I’m very sorry for what I did, your honor,’’ Vagnini said.

“Unfortunate, (that) we had to catch up here Tony,’’ the judge replied.
