My Defence Of Orji Kalu —Ebere Wabara

Ebere Wabara, Chief Orji Kalu’s media adviser, speaks to EROMOSELE EBHOMOLE about the feud between his boss and Governor Theodore Orji

Governor Theodore Orji and his predecessor, Orji Uzor Kalu were best of friends, but they have become foes. What caused it?

The crisis started from Theodore Orji’s first tenure in office. My brother, to tell you the truth, nobody on this earth can tell you it is this or it is that, not even those working with him, except the two of them. The only person that may know could be Kalu’s mother. Apart from that, anybody who points fingers at any direction is just telling lies. Nobody knows. And if you bring it before my boss formally or informally, he dismisses the matter as a non-issue. And it won’t be of any use to press on about the issue between them.

As it is right now, I can’t put my hands on anything. Everybody knows there is a friction, but what is the cause of that friction, nobody seems to know, except the two of them.

There is this belief that the governor backed out of the relationship because he was not cut out for such extreme loyalty as Kalu wanted for his mother. How true is that?

Well, that was the picture that he painted and that was the picture his supporters painted. There won’t be any fact to that. There can’t be any evidence. It is just like me saying that somebody told me you are after my wife. What are the parameters? What is the evidence on ground? That is the thing Governor Theodore Orji kept saying just a year into his office. He started telling people he had broken the jinx and that he is no longer loyal to anybody, he cannot take instructions from Mother Abia or from Kalu and all of that. It is the kind of story they’ve been milling around all these years.
