Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has announced hos retirement from international football with Cote D’Ivoire, ending a 12-year spell in which he earned 104 caps and scored 64 goals.
The 36-year old made the announcement today, stating ”It is with much sadness that I have decided to retire from international football.”

He added that ”I am very proud to have been captain of this team for eight years and to have contributed to placing my country on the world stage of football.”
Drogba, who recently rejoined Premier League club Chelsea on a free transfer, took part in two Cup of African Nations and three FIFA World Cup finals including the recently held tournament in Brazil.
He made his debut for Cote D’Ivoire in 2002 and went on to become national team captain in 2006 until his retirement today.
