Abuja – The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has commiserated with the families of Nigerians who were killed in the bomb explosions in  Abuja and Mubi, Adamawa State, on Wednesday.

A statement issued in Abuja on Friday by CAN president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, expressed the association’s heartfelt sympathy to the deceased families.

Oritsejafor prayed God to grant the families the fortitude to bear the demise of their loved ones and also prayed for God to replenish the stock of those who were affected by the attacks.

“For those who lost property in the recent attacks, I sympathise with you and pray that God replenishes your loss a thousand fold.

“And for the dead, may God grant you the fortitude to bear the demise of your loved ones,” he was quoted as saying.

The cleric condemned in totality, Wednesday’s bomb explosions in Abuja and Mubi in Adamawa State.

He urged all Nigerians, irrespective of their religions, to stand firm against terrorism by supporting law enforcement agents in the fight.

The cleric stressed the need for Nigerians to complement the efforts of security agencies by being vigilant and reporting suspicious activities to the relevant authorities

“The events of the past few days are most regrettable, but can be stopped from recurring, if citizens keep close watch on the activities of strangers in their midst.

“It has been overstated that security agents alone cannot do it, but with the cooperation of everyone, the terrorists will be eliminated.”

The statement urged property owners to brace up to this new challenge by reviewing their security arrangements, to check the activities of unauthorised persons within and around their premises.

“CAN is particularly saddened by the fact that innocent and defenceless Nigerians continue to lose their lives and property in what has become a regular schedule of the insurgents.

“As a father of faith, I join many other Nigerians to condemn these dastardly acts and urge the relevant authorities to rise to the occasion and curtail these acts of terror on Nigerians,” Oritsejafor was quoted as saying.

The CAN president urged Nigerians not to succumb to the antics of the terrorists and never to surrender to their intimidation.

“If we succumb to their threats and intimidation, then we would have given up our land and our destinies to the terrorists.”

He urged Christians to intensify prayers for God’s intervention in the affairs of the nation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that two bomb explosions in Abuja and Mubi, Adamawa State, on Wednesday, killed many, left several others injured and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
