*Why Ogun Needs Ladi Adebutu as Governor – Toyin Amuzu
Adeleye Adejoke Ogun
Hon. Oladipupo O. Adebutu has declared his intention to defeat the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Olamilekan Adeola Solomon, popularly known as Yayi, in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election after emerging as the Peoples Democratic Party’s consensus candidate on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Speaking during his acceptance speech in Abeokuta, Adebutu said the PDP was united behind his candidacy and expressed confidence that he would emerge victorious in 2027 because the votes of the people of Ogun State would count.
“I believe in God that your votes will count and will put me in office as your duly elected Governor,” he said.
The former House of Representatives member and PDP flag bearer in the 2023 election thanked party leaders, executives, and members for making him the party’s consensus candidate once again.
He alleged that the PDP won the 2023 election through the votes of the electorate in Ogun State but claimed the process was manipulated, adding that the party would ensure that all votes count in 2027.
“Through your votes, we won, but we were denied through manipulation. However, the focus now is to ensure that votes count in 2027,” he said.
Adebutu criticized the All Progressives Congress for governing Ogun State for over a decade and a half under different administrations, accusing the party of holding the state under siege while the people continue to groan under hardship.
He said Ogun State’s natural and human resources deserved better leadership and pledged that the PDP would rescue the people from suffering and maladministration.
Calling for unity within the party, he appealed to aspirants who stepped down for him to work together for the PDP’s success.
“There is no loser among us; we have all won for the party and for the good people of Ogun State,” he said.
He added that the party’s policy direction for the state would be unveiled in due course and urged members to maintain peaceful conduct ahead of the election.
Also speaking, former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, expressed enthusiasm over the turnout of party members from all the 20 local government areas in the state and encouraged them to sustain the spirit of unity within the party.
