*Kano exco approves over N45.6b for critical projects

The Kano State Agro-pastoral Development Project (KSADP) has spent approximately N800 million on various training programs for the project’s stakeholders, including direct beneficiaries and staff.
This was disclosed by the Project coordinator, Ibrahim Garba Muhammad.
According to him, “the training aims to ensure that the beneficiaries can effectively contribute to executing the project’s development objective and ensuring sustainability after the project’s closure.”
Speaking during the opening ceremony of a training workshop on Animal Insemination for animal husbandry technicians and other livestock staff of the Kano State Ministry of Agriculture, Ibrahim said the various capacity-building programmes will enhance the skills, knowledge, and resources of the beneficiaries.
The workshop held at the Kadawa Artificial Insemination center was supported by the Project.
Ibrahim further stated that, ”it is part of the broader objective of the project to reintroduce Artificial Insemination, towards ensuring sustainable livestock development in the state.”
According to him, “Kano remains one of the leading hubs of Nigeria’s livestock sector, with over 1.21 million agricultural households engaged in cattle, 1.46 million in goats, and 1.15 million in sheep. According to the recent sub-national GDP for Kano State, livestock contributed over ₦1.73 trillion in 2023.”
The Project coordinator said, “Besides renovating the Kadawa Artificial Insemination center, procuring five exotic bulls and and providing modern equipment, the KSADP, funded by the Islamic Development Bank and the Lives and Livelihoods Fund, is supporting the training of the workers for efficient service delivery and sustainability of the center, which was hitherto abandoned.
“Just recently, we saw the need to further upgrade the center, so we have earmarked N125 million for this, which will include the provision of certain inputs, fence reconstruction, etc. We will also establish a two-hectare fodder farm in the vicinity of the center for feed availability.”
He urged the trainees to justify the investment by paying keen attention to the workshop modules, stressing that “the expectation of the project, for breed improvement and incremental milk production, will not be achieved if you do not work efficiently.”
One of the trainees, Sulaiman Audu, expressed gratitude to the Islamic Development Bank and the Lives and Livelihoods Fund for facilitating the training, pointing out that it will impact on their work and career.
The capacity building workshop, conducted in collaboration with the Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology, Kano, involves comprehensive training in theoretical and practical aspects of artificial insemination, focusing on semen collection, freezing, and storage, as well as animal health, breed selection, and record-keeping.

The 32nd Kano State Executive Council Meeting, presided over by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the sum of ₦45,611,294,606.04 for the execution of critical projects across different sectors in the State.
A Statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, indicated that the Council deliberated on a number of memoranda bordering on developmental projects, policy issues, and other matters of public interest.
The Council approved N7,776,085,821.75 to sustain the government’s commitment to reviving education at all levels.
The Council approved the following: General Rehabilitation of Government Technical College (GTC), Kano – ₦1,463,147,266.88; general rehabilitation of Government Day Science College, Kano – ₦905,415,355.69; general rehabilitation of Physical Structures at GSS Rimi, Sumaila LGA – ₦397,665,367.01; general rehabilitation of School for Arabic Studies (SAS), Kano Municipal – ₦349,565,821.93
Settlement of Funds in respect of Boarding Schools Feeding Suppliers – ₦1,732,292,010.24; renovation of Classrooms and Provision of Furniture to Basic Schools across the 44 LGAs under the Community Re-orientation Committees (CRC) – ₦1,892,000,000.00; supply of chalk to Basic and Post-Basic Schools across the State – ₦131,500,000.00.
Purchase of Various Properties/Land for the expansion of selected Secondary Schools within Kano Metropolis – ₦158,452,480.00; general renovation works at Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Thomas Dambatta – ₦546,577,435.74.
For the health sector, the Council approved ₦802,667,439.89.
Procurement of medical equipment for Labour Room, Laboratory and Theatre Units of Imam Wali General Hospital – ₦118,125,000.00; upgrading of Unguwar Dabai Primary Health Centre, Gwale Local Government Area to a secondary health facility – ₦247,745,852.65; procurement and Installation of equipment at the upgraded quality control laboratory of Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) – ₦252,204,793.25.
Settlement of outstanding liability to the heirs of late Alhaji Sulaiman Abubakar for renovation works at Garo Comprehensive Health Centre, a project that was executed in 2018 under the APC administration in the State – ₦184,592,793.74.
The Council also approved ₦290,975,000.00 for the Environment and Climate Change sector.
Construction of 12No. solar powered boreholes in water-stressed communities – ₦170,400,000.00; fumigation activities in various communities across the State – ₦120,575,000.00.
For Land and Physical Planning, the Council approved ₦910,353,745.00.
Landscaping the frontage of Kwankwasiyya City – ₦500,000,000.00;
compensation for properties affected by the construction of the Rogo–Bari–Falgore–Mahangi Road – ₦251,901,265.00; purchase of Properties/Land for expansion of selected secondary schools – ₦158,452,480.00.
The Council also approved ₦32,507,858,927.12 for Works and Infrastructure.
This represents the largest sectoral allocation, reaffirming the administration’s priority on infrastructure development.
Projects approved include: revocation and re-award of contract for reconstruction of Guda Abdullahi Road and Additional Links within Farm Centre, Tarauni LGA – ₦4,003,054,101.25; reconstruction of Justice Dahiru Mustapha Road and Additional Link Road within Farm Centre, Tarauni LGA – ₦3,540,822,275.53; construction of Drainage Network at Security Institute, Gabasawa LGA – ₦111,392,471.95; construction of Concrete Box Culvert at Hausawar Tamburawa, Dawakin Kudu LGA – ₦189,807,018.57.
Construction of Ring Drainage and Interlocking Tiles in Kano State School of Technology – ₦139,124,882.47; upward Review of Rates for Nine (9) No. 5KM Projects – ₦8,415,075,646.00; upward Review of Rates for Completion of Dualization of Kofar Dawanau–Danduinshe–Kwanar Madugu Road (Phase II) – ₦4,347,881,632.83.
Supply and installation of Solar Powered Streetlights at 55 Locations within Kano Metropolis (Phase III) – ₦8,376,013,179.52; construction of Rehabilitation Centre at Dorayi Psychiatric Hospital – ₦2,357,275,822.24; renovation Works at Kano Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA) – ₦236,837,653.68
Supply and Installation of Floodlight Scoreboard and Public Address System at Sani Abacha Stadium – ₦412,031,405.28; general renovation of Kano Central Mosque – ₦288,593,328.32.
The Council also approved the sum of ₦796,250,000.00 for the Internal Security and Special Services Ministry.
Augmentation of procurement funds for the purchase of 455 motorcycles for Kano State Neighbourhood Watch – ₦796,250,000.00.
The Council approved ₦429,059,905.32 for the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (OSSG).
Procurement of vehicles for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) – ₦126,000,000.00; procurement of V vehicles for Kano State Sports Commission – ₦303,059,905.32.
The Council approved ₦430,324,750.00 for the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
Installation of Solar Streetlights at Sani Abacha Stadium – ₦135,324,750.00;
settlement of funds for the sponsorship of athletes, coaches, and officials to participate in the 9th National Youth Games, Asaba, Delta State – ₦295,000,000.00.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs received the approval of ₦1,006,000,000.00 for the conduct of mass weddings (Auren Zaurawa da ‘Yan Mata).
The Ministry of Water Resources received the approval of the sum of ₦1,109,590,090.95 for the settlement of funds for the supply of diesel and energy bills for four months.
