The Kano State Executive Council has approved the execution of developmental projects across various sectors in the state, amounting to N18.8b.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Land and Physical Planning, Alhaji Abduljabbar Muhammad Umar, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the 31st Executive Council meeting held at the governor’s lodge in Kwankwasiyya city.
According to the Commissioner, the breakdown of the council’s approvals is as follows: construction of a lecture hall, students’ common room, access road, landscaping and drainage at Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies at the cost of N216,883,651.00.
Construction of drainage network and interlocking tiles at Zage Kofar Wambai in Kano Municipal local government at the cost of N235, 130,995.78
. Rehabilitation of Suleiman and Lamido cresents in Nassarawa local government at the cost of N3,721,309,770.63
Installation of solar-powered street light at 5 5-kilometre dualised road in Bagwai Local Government Area at the cost of N554,761,911.45.
Installation of solar-powered street light at 5 5-kilometre dualised road in Ghari Local Government Area at the cost of N528,838,457.65
Installation of solar-powered street light at a 5 Kilometre dualised road in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area at the cost of N633,615,484.11
Installation of solar-powered street light, 5 Kilometre dualised road in Kabo Local Government Area at the cost of N375,890,080.19.
Installation of solar-powered street light at 5 5-kilometre dualised road in Minjibir Local Government Area at the cost of N475,035,305.91.

Completion of Kwankwaso township roads and drainage at the cost of N1,793,922,818.21; construction of Kano State Government House Hospital at the cost of N318,894,660.17; renovation of Poultry Institute at Tukui, Dambatta local government phase II at N149,385,600.80
Renovations work (phase II) for the full take-off of Ghari College of Advanced Studies, in Ghari local government at N313, 348,619.08; expansion of scope of work for general renovation of Kano Film Institute Academy, Tiga at N200,280,260.61.
Construction of open arena at Kano State Government House at N605,015,386.21; construction of Yandadi Cikin Gari road in Ghari local government at N403,152,353.40; construction of 5-cell (2.5 MX3M) reinforced concrete box culvert along Yanshana road in Kumbotso local government at N183,071,305.63; review of rates and revised estimated total cost for the construction of 5-kilometre dualised road in Rogo local government at N1,421,804,905.83
The Council also approved the construction of a lecture hall, students’ common room, access road, landscaping and drainage at Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies at N216,883,651.00.
Settlement of funds in respect of suppliers of boarding schools feeding at N429,913,619.52; general rehabilitation and land compensation at GSS Kwankwaso, Madobi local government at N705,899,532.12
. Provision of school uniforms to Primary I pupils for the 2025/2026 academic session at N1, 147,582,000.00; general rehabilitation of seven burnt schools across the State at N1, 622,077,084.13
. General renovation of Kawon Alhaji Sani Primary School at N84,153,485.54; general renovation of Giginyu Primary School and Junior Secondary School at N254, 022,014,94; general renovation of Government Girls Secondary School, Giginyu at N281,843,311.75; general renovation of Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Badawa at N162,696,098.89.
In the environment sector, the Council approved the construction of 14 solar-powered boreholes in water-stressed communities across the state at N199,800,000.00; repair of waste evacuation vehicles for the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) at National Trucks Manufacturing Limited, amounting to N181,732,412.01.
Construction of a reinforced concrete drainage at Badawa ward, Nassarawa local government, amounting to N118,465,866.92; construction of a reinforced concrete drainage at Giginyu ward, Nassarawa local government, amounting to N212,108,533.75; fumigation activities in respect of 115 strategic locations by REMASAB at N129,425,000.00; landscaping of Na’ibawa Yan Lemo flyover amounting to N155,616,000.00.
In the health sector, the Council approved the renovation of the female hostel at the School of Hygiene under the College of Health Sciences and Technology, amounting to N129,654,208.51; procurement of brand new 32 seater Coaster Bus 2024/2025 Model for the School of Health Technology Bebeji, amounting to N217,000,000.00.
Policies approved by the council include:
Transmission of two bills in response to the Supreme Court judgment on local government autonomy to the State House of Assembly for passage into law.
. Transmission of the draft Kano State Anti-Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer( LGBTQ) and other related matters bill 2024 to the State House of Assembly for passage into Law.
The auctioning of obsolete vehicles and other equipment belonging to the Government, with a view to getting rid of non-functional assets, reducing the cost of maintenance and generating revenue and further directed the Ministry of Finance to liaise with the relevant committee to facilitate the process.
Engagement of Private Consultants to key into 5 Kilometre Projects across the 44 local government areas with a view to providing recommendations to the Government towards taking decisive action against non-compliant contractors.
Engagement of consultants to investigate the activities of hotels, events and related centres; renaming of the Ministry of Women, Children and Disabled to the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs.
Implementation of the Kano State women’s economic empowerment policy and action plan 2025 under the State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs.
