The Chairman of Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Ademola Bello Destiny, has issued an Executive Order prohibiting the sale of fuel in jerrycans and the bulk purchase of provisions. The move is aimed at stifling the supply of logistics to criminals terrorising the area.
The order, signed on Friday, 4 October, was explained by the Council Chairman as a step to curb insecurity and maintain law and order in the area. The order reads in part:
“Restriction on Provision Sales in Bulk: Provision sellers are hereby instructed to cease selling goods, particularly food items and other essentials, in bulk. This directive aims to discourage the supply of bandits in their various hideouts.
“Movement Restriction: In the interest of public safety, a curfew has been imposed on all residents of Mopamuro Local Government, restricting movement beyond 10 p.m. This measure is intended to enhance security surveillance and reduce the incidence of crime during late-night hours.
“Enforcement and Compliance: The Chairman has directed all security agencies within the local government to strictly enforce the provisions of this order. Any individual found violating these directives will be apprehended and dealt with according to the law.
“Call to Residents: Hon. Ademola Bello urges all residents of Mopamuro to cooperate with the local government administration and security agencies in ensuring the success of this initiative. By adhering to these regulations, residents can significantly contribute to maintaining peace and security within their communities.
“Together, we can make Mopamuro a safer and more secure place for everyone.”
Bello, a former member of the Kogi State House of Assembly, urged all residents of the LGA to cooperate with his administration and security agencies in ensuring the success of the order.
Mopamuro is one of the three local governments in the Yagba Federal Constituency, which has suffered untold security breaches in recent weeks. Residents now live in fear in the area.
