About seven persons, including six students of Federal University Lokoja, FUL, on Monday afternoon were feared killed when an articulated vehicle rammed into FUL shuttle bus at the Felele end on the busy Lokoja to Abuja highway.

An eyewitness account claimed the accident occurred at about 2.30 pm on Monday, adding that the dead also included the driver of the FUL shuttle bus.

According to the source, the articulated vehicle was carrying wood and hundreds of Jerry cans of palm oil heading to Abuja. Unfortunately, the vehicle had a brake failure and rammed into the FUL shuttle bus, already filled up with students.

The FUL shuttle bus was crushed by the articulated vehicle as motorists and passengers travelling along the highway were stranded.

Officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, were on hand to rescue some victims who were trapped under the articulated vehicle.

FRSC State Sector Commandant Mr Samuel Oyedeji, who led his team to the scene of the accident, told newsmen he could not give an actual number of those who lost their lives.

He, however, disclosed that those who were injured have been moved to the Federal Teaching Hospital. FTH and Kogi State Specialist Hospital both in Lokoja for further treatment, while the corpses have been deposited in the Morgue of the hospitals for identification.
