The abducted Onogie (traditional ruler) of Udo-Eguare, Edo Central, has been rescued by operatives of the State Police Command.

The traditional ruler was kidnapped on 3 February, 2025.

A statement on Saturday by the Command’s spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, noted that the rescue operation took place on Friday at about 6 pm.

Yamu said that the rescue was made possible through sustained efforts by police operatives, who were supported by the Edo Government, vigilantes, hunters, and other well-meaning residents of the state.

According to him, the State Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, had vowed to rescue the kidnapped traditional ruler, and her team worked tirelessly to keep the promise.

The Command attributed the success to the logistic support rendered by Governor Monday Okpebholo.

“The Command equally appreciates the vigilantes, hunters and other well-meaning residents of the State for their support so far.

“The general public is assured that the Command’s commitment to the fight against crime remains unshaken,” Yamu said.
