Yesterday was the third day of intensive interrogations of Sierra Leone’s former President Ernest Koroma.
The restrictions attached to his self bail 1 the “expressed permission” of the IGP and he is only allowed three family members and three APC party members, who can be restricted out of his residence for security reasons. The former President is now under 24 hour surveillance
Unconfirmed sources said there are 76 count charges and evidences against the former President, that may be too lengthy for an early conclusion.
His lawyer, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara remarked that his client was “ surprised and shocked at the police invitation, in view of his past as head of AU on good governance and head of West Africa Leadership Forum of former Presidents.
But he decided to cooperate with the invitation and interrogation”.
Meanwhile, ECOWAS, in a communique on Sunday in Abuja, has confirmed a “Security Mission” to Sierra Leone to help stabilise the country, as the security currently is beset with huge challenges of loyalty and patriotism to the country.
There have been two coup attempts on President Bio since the last multi-tier elections on 24 June, 2023, just five months ago.
A report by the Institute of Governance Reform IGR, today, revealed that “violent entrepreneurs, seeking to seize control of the state for their personal gains, like the events of the Johnny Paul coup in 1997, was replayed in the November 26 coup attempt.
The curfew has been adjusted from 12 midnight to 6am, effective yesterday.
The attack on the country’s armoury on 26 November, is a critical blow to the country’s arsenal and a threat to the security sector.
