A five-man gang who allegedly beat one Ibrahim Yusuf, 40, to death were on Friday remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons, on the orders of an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. Kusanu, ordered that the suspects should remain behind bars, pending an outcome of legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The accused – Ismaila Amadu, 30; Mohammed Awalu, 25; Ibrahim Mohammed, 27; Mohammed Bello, 30; and Amadu Mohammed, 20 are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.

Their plea was not taken and the case was adjourned until Feb. 12 for advice.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Jimah Iseghede, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 7 at Tin can Island, Apapa.

Iseghede alleged that the five accused had conspired and used a belt to beat Yusuf, 40 to death.

He said the offences contravened Sections 223 and 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
