President Mohammadu Buhari:

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari will now work from his residence at the presidential villa, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s minister of information and culture said on Wednesday.

The announcement came following the President’s absence from the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting, the second time he missed the meeting in three weeks.

DailyTrust newspaper reported that the cabinet had awaited the president’s arrival until the State House Chief of Protocols suddenly stepped in at 11.00am and whispered to Osinbajo to take over proceedings at the meeting which usually commences at 10 am.

Buhari’s absence at the last meeting of the cabinet had generated controversies, with speculations that the President who was on medical vacation in the United Kingdom in the early part of the year may have taken ill again.

Buhari has not been appearing in public appearances since he returned to the country after a 49-day medical vacation in the UK.

But the minister of information told journalists that Buhari will now work from his residence at the presidential villa at the end of the FEC meeting.

The Minister said Buhari needed some rest and has asked that all the files on his desk be brought to him at his official residence for treatment.

“We just concluded the federal executive council meeting, I’m sure you noticed that the president was not there. He was not there because he asked that he be allowed to rest and asked the VP to preside,” Mohammed said.

“And he will be working from home. He has asked all his files to be taken to him in the house. He will be working from home today.”
