
Sokoto State Government has designed a four -year strategic pla on mineral resources in the state.
The Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Sokoto.
Goronyo said that it was the plan of the government to ease the attainment of its goals in identifying and utilising abundant mineral resources in the state.
The commissioner said the strategic plan was also created through application of appropriate laws governing exploration and mining activities for socio-economic benefits of the state.
Goronyo said that the action represented the vision and aspiration of the state government to identify, harness, exploit and develop abundant minerals resources.
He said that this was aimed at diversifying the economic base of the state with a view to improving the Internally Generated Revenue.
Goronyo also said that it was planned to provide an enabling environment for investors in exploration and mining activities.
He said that this was also meant to obtain mineral licence, reconnaissance survey of minerals, mineral mapping and proposed mineral policies for the state. (NAN)
