Gunmen invade hospital in Rivers, abduct Nurses

Security men are investigating the circumstances surrounding the abduction of two nurses at the Erema hospital in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area by gunmen.

The latest is that the gunmen have demanded the sum of five million ransom to secure two kidnapped nurses in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni  Local Government Area of Rivers State.

 

Mr. Awaji-Owa Ntendeng and Felicia Nwikinian who are nurses abducted at gunpoint on duty at Erama General Hospital in the area.

A source within the community said  that Nwikinian had escaped from the hands of the abductors some minutes after and was receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

Also One of the victims who narrowly escaped the kidnap, Obi Welly disclosed that the gunmen numbering over eight broke into the hospital premises and took away the two nurses on duty at gunpoint.

Welly who is the General Secretary, National Association Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, disclosed that before the victims were whisked away that the hoodlums inflicted machete wounds on them.

He hinted that the kidnappers have established contact with them and had demanded five million ransom to secure the release of the nurses.

Although Public Relations Officer of Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni said the police were yet to get details of the incident, there were indications that the Police and other security agencies have swung into action unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
