A German attacked passengers with a knife at a train station in the Munich area in southern Germany early on Tuesday, killing one person and leaving three others with life-threatening injuries, Bavarian radio reported.
Police were checking witness statements that the man shouted “Allahu Akbar” (God is Great) during the attack, Bayerischer Rundfunk reported.
Another local newspaper the Ebersberger Zeitung reported that the man first attacked a passenger in the S-Bahn train before knifing a second at the station.
He then attacked two cyclists, including one newspaper delivery man.
Some eyewitnesses said they heard the man with the knife had been shouting “Allahu Akbar” – Arabic for “God is great” – but officers and prosecutors have yet to confirm the reports, broadcaster Bayerische Rundfunk(BR) reported.
A spokesman for the state police in Munich told The Local, Germany’s Online newspaper that they could not confirm media reports of a political or Islamist background to the attack early on Tuesday morning.
The man is a German citizen with no criminal history.
