In the full glare of live audience and millions of television viewers across Africa, rap star Olamide threw caution to the wind as he furiously slammed the microphone, splashed a disposable cup laden with drink and then flung his cap into a stunned crowd at The Headies early Saturday morning.

Olamide, who opened the list of award winners at the ceremony held at Landmark Events Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos,  was angry because he claimed his protege, Lil Kesh deserves the Next Rated Award since he has had back to back hit songs all year round. But the highly coveted award was won by Mavin Records act, Reekado Banks. And the award comes with the bonus of a brand new Hyundai Car.

The scenario happened after one of YBNL artistes, Adekunle Gold won the Best Alternative song of the year. The whole YBNL crew stepped on stage to join Adekunle Gold to receive the award. Lil Kesh also joined and prostrated on the stage for Olamide. That’s when the YBNL boss took the mic and went ballistic.

Peeved #Olamide went off with expletives thrown at #TheHeadies organisers and obviously Reekado Banks and his Mavin Records crew.

“Ko ni da fun Iya anybody” (It won’t be well with the recipient’s mother),” Olamide said angrily and stormed out of the event with his crew.

He didn’t stop there. On their way out of the event centre, some fans who tried to hail Olamide got a raw deal as the YBNL boss rained blow on one of those fans with many staring in bewilderment.

Coincidentally, as Olamide’s ugly scene was playing out outside the main event venue, Mavin Records boss,  Don Jazzy was given a Special Recognition Award.

During his acceptance speech,  Don Jazzy, a man known for very few words, responded to what some social media commentators have already tagged “Mavin/YBNL Beef”.

According to him, he has never liked awards and the only reason he came for the show was to support his “children” (Reekado Banks, Korede Bello and D”ija) all who were nominees.

Don Jazzy, who obviously was embarrassed and angry at the turn of event, said he has already promised Reekado Banks and Korede Bello (who were both nominated in the Next Rated category) that he would buy them cars.

Supreme Mavin Dynasty boss ended with a message for Olamide; “Egbon Olamide, if you want the car come and collect it. God bless you.”

Immediately he said that, Don Jazzy and his Mavin Crew also stormed out of the event with many guests in tow. That suddenly brought the ceremony to an abrupt end.

Meanwhile, this feud has already taken over the social media space. Kemi Lala Akindoju, movie director and one of the awards presenters, expressed her disappointment on the attitude of Olamide which she said took Adekunle Gold’s moment away from him.

“By the way the jury of the Headies saw to it that awards agreed with the fact that 2015 was Olamide’s year- see how he just ruined it,” Kemi Lala tweeted.

Another commentator said no need to blame anyone for the jury’s decision to give it to Reekado Banks.

“This is more of street Vs Huge Social Media Audience . #Headies2015 voting was online and not on the street,” the commentator tweeted.
