Espinar: assassinated on second attempt

Philipino Police said on Monday that a Philippine judge was shot dead in a cock-fighting arena, six months after he survived assassination attempt on his life

Senior Inspector and regional police spokesman in Northern Samar province, Mark Nalda said that Judge Reynaldo Espinar, 53 was killed while placing bet at the arena.

He said that the assailant sneaked behind the judge and shot him in the head on Sunday.

He said that the judge died instantly and his bodyguard shot the assailant while he was fleeing.

Espinar was the third judge to be killed in the Philippines in three months as two judges were killed on Sept. 1 and Nov. 11 in separate attacks.

He survived an assassination attempt in May when assailants shot him in the chest while he was wearing a bulletproof vest.
