President-elect Buhari and VP elect, Osinbajo, display certificate of return: PDP goes vow legal challenge

The PDP Governors Forum said on Wednesday that the March 28 presidential election in the country was flawed and would be challenged through legal process.

The Chairman of the forum and Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, told State House correspondents after a solidarity visit to President Goodluck Jonathan, that the governors were elated by the president’s disposition toward the polls.

He said he was sure the PDP as a party would react to matters connected with the elections.

“But as governors we came to pay solidarity with our president and to commend him for being a statesman.

“Honestly, he has done something that no African leader has done in such a very flawed exercise with under aged voters everywhere; with disparity between states; some using card readers; some failed card readers; some using manual and some states not using manual.

“Very flawed exercise; yet he looked at it and said in spite of it all I want to ensure peace, unity and stability of the country; let me give an opportunity to the APC Presidential candidate to come in and then give in his own to the country.

“That kind of sacrificial stand by a president can only come from a PDP president and that is why we are very proud of what has happened.”

The governor said that the PDP was glad not just to pilot the affairs of the country for the past 16 years but also for giving Nigeria a very peaceful transition that had shocked all and sundry.

“We as governors have come to assure him that we are going back as field commanders, to hold our states and that come April 11, PDP will still maintain its lead across Nigeria.

“Everyone knows that the only party that is national in nature and that is on ground is the PDP.

“So we are not going to be daunted by what has happened,” Akpabio said.

The governor said that the party had already indicated that it would explore all legal means to seek redress.

He congratulated the party’s supporters on their peaceful disposition during and after the polls.

He said that “with the kind of sacrificial stance of our president, our faithful across Nigeria are not on the streets breaking windscreens and vehicles.

“This is where Nigerians will judge; we want peace; we want stability; we want unity.

“We want to ensure the continuous peaceful co-existence of Nigeria and the progress and development of this country and not destruction; that is what PDP stands for”.

He said that April 11 would show that the PDP was in control of the country and not vice versa.

The governor said the notice for the solidarity meeting with Jonathan was short which explained the level of attendance by the forum members.

Governor’s of Niger, Jigawa, Katsina, Ekiti, Ondo did not attend the meeting.
