Speaking after signing the new deal which likely makes him the club’s highest paid player, Hazard stated “I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. Since I came here in 2012 I have always felt good and the club has been very supportive to me.”

He added that “I hope we can repay [the fan’s support] by winning lots of trophies, beginning with the Capital One Cup at Wembley, and after that, we can push hard towards the end of the season.”

The 24-year old was subject of exit talks after an supposed falling out with club manager Jose Mourinho last season due to his work rate for the team.

However, Hazard has started every match for Chelsea this season, scoring 13 goals in 36 appearances so far this season as the Blues aim for the lesser treble of the UEFA Champions League, Premier League as well as Capital One Cup titles.
