Stunning Enyimba Comeback Sees Off Sharks

Mfon Udoh and Emeka Nwanna scored a brace each as Enyimba came from two goals down to pick up a dramatic 5-2 victory over Sharks in a Nigerian Premier League played at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba this evening.

Both sides went into matchday 31 encounter level on 45 points apiece, with Enyimba leading its visitors from Port-Harcourt on goal difference in fourth place.

But a blistering start saw Sharks take a 2-0 lead after just 12 minutes of the encounter as the possibility of ending a run of losing the eight previous visits to Aba hung high for the visitors.

An own goal from Chinedu Udoji broke the deadlock for Sharks in the eighth minute before Madu Chiamaka doubled the Port-Harcourt side’s lead four minutes later to leave the Aba Elephants shell-shocked.

Midfielder Sokari Kingsley however pulled a goal back for Enyimba just before the half-hour mark, while substitute Mfon Udoh scored the equaliser five minutes into the second half.

At this point the momentum of the match had shifted to the Aba Elephants, with Emeka Nwanna putting the home side ahead for the first time after 63 minutes.

Udoh got his second with 10 minutes left on the clock to make it 4-2 while Nwanna also scored his second of the match through a long range effort in stoppage time to complete a remarkable turn-around for Enyimba.

As a result, Enyimba now occupies second spot on the league table with 48 points, five points behind defending champions Kano Pillars, while Sharks have now dropped to 10th place.

Elsewhere in the Premier League today, Nasarawa United lost ground in the title race following a 3-1 loss to El-Kanemi Warriors in the early kick-off in Kano, while Victor Alegbe scored a brace as Dolphins defeated Kaduna United 2-0 in Port-Harcourt.

Dolphins as a result now lies in third place behind Enyimba on goal difference while Nasarawa United have dropped to fifth place with 47 points, behind Abia Warriors on goal difference after the Umuahia club beat FC Taraba 2-0 in another match today.
