England striker Daniel Sturridge has signed a new long-term deal with Premier League club Liverpool at the club’s Melwood training ground today.

Sturridge stated after signing the contract extension that “It feels great. It’s a big, big day in my life to commit to this club and to give the club my best years, which are ahead of me.”

The former Manchester City striker added, “Since I’ve come in here, [Brendan Rodgers has] put his faith in me and played me in a central role – which I’ve always been asking for throughout my career.”

“I’m very grateful for it because before I was here, I was at Chelsea and I was in and out, and I wasn’t getting opportunities.”

The 25-year old joined Liverpool from Chelsea for £12m in January 2013, going on to score 36 goals in 52 appearances for the Reds so far, including 21 goals in the Premier League last season.

Sturridge has however been on the sidelines for a month due to a hamstring injury, though is in contention for a place in the squad when the Reds face West Brom in the Premier League this weekend.
