Bayern Munich made it two wins from two matches in the UEFA Champions League this evening following a deserved 1-0 win over Russian champions CSKA Moscow in a Group E match at the Arena Khimki.

Despite playing in sub-10°C weather conditions, Bayern settled quickly into the match with Dutch forward Arjen Robben a constant threat down the flank for the German champions though a five-man defence held forte for CSKA.

The Russians defensive resolve was however broken midway through the first half when Thomas Müller slotted home from the penalty spot after Mario Götze was brought down in the area by Mario Fernandes.

Nigerian forward Ahmed Musa then shot straight at Manuel Neuer in the 37th minute when put through on goal at the other end, while Roman Eremenko ws denied by the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the area moments later.

Bayern reasserted itself on the match in the second half with Mehdi Benatia finding the sidenetting two minutes in, but CSKA continued to probe for an equaliser through Musa and Zoran Tosic.

The latter had a 30-yard effort well saved by Neuer 20 minutes from time as the 2013 European champions held on for the win which takes it top of the group with six points, three points ahead of AS Roma that play at Manchester City later tonight in the other group match.

Elsewhere tonight, John Terry will make his 100th appearance in Europe for Chelsea in the Group G match at Sporting Lisbon while PSG will be without talismatic Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic when Barcelona visit Paris in a Group F encounter.
