Azeezat Oshoala is one of the heroines of the Falconets who won Silver medal at the 2014 Under-20 Women World Cup in Canada. She emerged the Most Valuable Player of the tournament and won the Golden Boot and Golden Ball. In this interview with KAZEEM UGBODAGA in Ikorodu, where she was hosted by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, a Congresswoman, she spoke extensively on her exploits and her future career

How do you feel with this honour bestowed on you?

I want to thank the people of Ikorodu and my family for this event. They told me and I thought it was going to be a small one, I never knew it was going to be a big event like this. I really appreciate them. I also thank Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, she has really done a good job. It is something I never expected, but today I am surprised and I thank them.

After your exploits at the Under-20 Women World Cup in Canada, you have another big assignment at hand – the African Women Championship. How prepared are you?

Well, going to the senior team is not just for myself, but the country. Personally, I just want to make sure my country is victorious in the competition…If the goals keep coming just like what happened at the World Cup, I will keep on scoring. I’m not making a promise but hoping to live up to expectation and give my best in the competition.

What do you think you have really done to improve the way played when you were still young and now that you are playing for the Falconets to make you the Most Valuable Player?

Actually, I listened to people and my coaches, even players. You know, you are not seeing yourself, people see your mistakes, they tell you and you work on them. My finishing or last touch on the ball, I think, I really worked on it. Few years back, I played at the World Cup in Japan, I didn’t perform up to expectation but in Canada I think I really worked on the mistakes I made at the 2012 World Cup and this time around, when I went to the 2014 World Cup, I think I did it perfectly okay. It has really helped me.

A lot of Nigerians are now comparing you to Perpetua Nwokocha. Do you think you have reached that level yet?

Actually, she started from somewhere and I am also starting my own now, so I hope to be better than her.
