Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed in a press conference that Argentina midfielder Angel di Maria has asked to be allowed to leave the club and has also rejected a contract offer from the club.

Ancelotti stated ”The player has requested a transfer this summer. He rejected the club’s offer to stay at Madrid, so we are looking for a solution.”

The Italian tactician added ”We will find a solution for Di Maria before the end of the transfer window, but he remains a Madrid player for now. We are in a situation that the player has to fix himself.”

Di Maria joined Real Madrid from Benfica in 2010 and has made 190 appearances for the reigning European champions, scoring 36 goals and winning six titles with the club including last season’s UEFA Champions League in which he figured prominently.

The 26-year old was part of Argentina’s squad to the last FIFA World in Brazil, playing five matches until picking up an injury which saw him miss the semi-final win over Netherlands and the loss to Germany in the final.

But with the high profile arrivals of Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich and James Rodriguez from AS Monaco, Di Maria’s position at the club has come in doubt; leading to the 26-year old being linked with a move to Manchester United or Paris St. Germain.

Ancelotti also revealed that German international Sami Khedira has not requested a transfer although stated the 28-year old has also rejected a contract offer from the club.

Khedira has a year left on his current contract with Real Madrid and Ancelotti’s confirmation of a contract rejection by the midfielder fuels speculation of his exit from the Bernabéu, with Premier League club Arsenal linked with a move for him.
