Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Argentina international Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon, with Portuguese midfielder Nani to join Sporting as part of the deal.

The defender’s move to Old Trafford is subject to a medical and personal terms being agreed, ending a protracted transfer that witnessed the 24-year old refusing to train with Sporting last week though he later apologised.

Rojo, who was part of Argentina’s team that reached the final of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil and scored a goal in a group stage match against Nigeria, will join the Red Devils in a five-year deal for a fee of £16m.

Meanwhile Nani will join Sporting on a season long loan, in what marks a return to the club he left to join Manchester United seven years ago.

Rojo as a result will become Manchester United’s third signing after midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao and defender Luke Shaw from Southampton.
