Nigeria’s former Education minister, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili early Monday, said she was detained by men of the State Security Service who withheld her travel documents at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on her way to board a British Airways flight to London.

Ezekwesili stated this on Twitter just before take off ahead of her interview with the BBC News Service on Tuesday.

“On my way to London this morning for my @BBCHARDtalk appearance billed for tommorrow and the SSS has detained me by witholding my passport,” Oby said at 07:37  GMT

Ezekwesili a coordinator of  the #BringBackOurGirls Abuja family, said the security operatives released her documents after a delay that almost prevented her from boarding the flight.

“SSS  has released it, Just barely made the BA flight. Last to board @ 7.55 for an 8.00 am flight that is now taxiing.

“Is this a democracy?” she queried, calling it an infringement on her constitutional right.

“No ONE can seize my Democratic Rights. I refuse to let the SSS get away with trampling on my Constitutional right,” Ezekwesili said.

Monday’s incident may not be unconnected with preparations for the 100 days awareness campaign marked for July 23, by the #BringBackOurGirls team, over the plight of more than 200 Chibok missing girls.
