lslamic State has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack in Nice, France that resulted in the death of at least 84 people on Bastille Day.

The Islamic-State-connected Amaq news agency quoted an “insider source” as saying that Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, 31, “was a soldier of the Islamic State.”

“He executed the operation in response to calls to target citizens of coalition nations that fight the Islamic State,” the news agency wrote.

Also, the Islamic State Bayan radio station said Bouhlel used “a new tactic” to wreak havoc.

“The crusader countries know that no matter how much enforce their security measures and procedures it will not stop the mujahedeen from striking,” the station said.

But doubts remain if ISIS indeed directed the attack or of Bouhel acted alone when he turned seaside Promenade des Anglais to into a killing field.

10 children  were among the dead while 202 people were injured.

Among the wounded, 50 were “between life and death,” according to French President François Hollande.

Bouhlel, a truck driver, had evaded police fences blocking Nice’s famous Promenade des Anglais before zigzagging his way through the crowds in a method that seemed calculated to generate maximum bloodshed.

French authorities on Saturday detained three additional people in connection with the attack.

One of those detained was believed to have spoken to the attacker by phone minutes before he started his deadly attack.

An additional man was detained late Friday, according to the office of Paris prosecutor François Molins.

Bouhlel’s ex-wife has been detained for questioning since Friday.

France has been investigating whether Bouhlel had a terrorist support network in Nice, where he appears to have been living for at least six years.
