File: FRSC rescue workers carry a dead person from accident scene

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), says 1, 852 road traffic accidents were recorded in major routes across the country in 2015, with Abuja-Lokoja route accounting for the highest number with 615 incidents.

This is contained in the 2015 annual report of the corps made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.

The report showed that the Abuja-Lokoja route also claimed the highest number of lives in 2015 with 293 deaths.

The route also recorded the highest number of injured people in road traffic accidents during the period, with 1,937 cases.

Some of the major road traffic routes across the country are: Abeokuta-Lagos, Abakaliki-Enugu, Sokoto-Gusau, Ilesha-Ipetu Ijesa and Abuja-Lokoja.

Lagos-Ibadan and Akwanga-Lafia, came second and third respectively with 217 and 105 road traffic accidents during the period under review.

Abuja-Kubwa in the FCT and Keffi-Nyanya trailed with 99 accidents apiece.

The report showed that the AYA-Nyanya, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, all the FCT and Doka-Kaduna routes, recorded the lowest road traffic accidents during the period with 68 each.

This is followed by Lagos-Ibadan, and Doka-Kaduna routes with 154 and 94 deaths, respectively in road accidents.

According to the report, Nasarawa-Eggon-Akwanga, Wukari-Zakibiam, Chiromawa-Zaria, Wudil-Bauchi, Gombe-Biu, Kabba-Okene, Okene-Auchi and Sagamu-Ijebu Ode, recorded the lowest with 15 deaths each.

Lagos-Ibadan, Doka-Kaduna came second and third respectively with 809 and 367 injured people.

The report said that Tashar Yari-Chiromawa and Lokoja-Ajaokuta recorded the lowest injuries with 70 each.

It said the FRSC stopped 611, 697 traffic offenders during the period, booked 449, 736 offenders, and cautioned 113, 488 motorists during the period. (NAN)
