Women and kids rescued from a Boko Haram camp

Militants of Islamist group Boko Haram abducted teenage girls in their latest attack on a village in Nigeria’s northeastern state of Borno, security sources and local residents said on Monday.

The local correspondent of the Chinese news agency, Xinhua reported  an unspecified number of teenage girls were taken away early Sunday from Bam village, about 170 km south of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno.

The militants razed houses and killed at least seven people at the village, he added.

Borno State police spokesman Victor Ikuku said he had not received information about the abduction.

Local sources said the gunmen shot indiscriminately and sang Arabic choruses during the attack.

Ali Mallam Ali, a local chief in the village, confirmed the abduction, adding most residents were asleep when the attack took place.

“The attackers gathered all the women in the village and separated the teenage girls from the married ones before taking them away,” he said.

In April last year, Boko Haram similarly abducted 276 schoolgirls from Chibok in Borno state. Fifty seven of the girls escaped on the way, leaving 219 of the girls with the terrorists.

None of the girls has been rescued till date, 595 days after.
