Muslims, Christians seek peaceful coexistence in Kano

Muslim and Christian leaders in Kano have sued for peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance among all faiths in the state,  in the face of provocative insinuations of religious bias in Nigeria from some quarters, outside the shores of the country.

Nigeria has come under international scrutiny, following an utterance credited to the President of the United States of America (USA), Donald Trump, that Nigeria is a  “Country of Particular Concern (CPC),” where Christians are allegedly murdered.

Trump also threatened military invasion of Nigeria, a scenario which has sparked mixed reactions from both Nigerian leaders and the masses.

But in Kano, Muslim and Christian leaders are putting heads together to ensure that religious affiliations and differences will never be a barrier to peace, unity, and socio-economic development.

To further ensure peaceful coexistence among Christians and Muslims in Kano, the Northern Christian Religious Leaders Assembly (NOCRELA) paid a courtesy visit to Kano state Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Ahmed Tijjani Auwalun.

NOCRELA chairman, Rev. Murtala Mati Dangora, visited the Ministry of Religious Affairs to express appreciation to the Commissioner for his efforts to ensure that Muslims and Christians in the state live peacefully.

Rev. Dangora proposed collaboration to promote peace between Muslims and Christians in Kano.

He emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence for promoting socio-economic development in the state.

In his remarks, the Commissioner, Ahmad Tijjani Auwalun, who was represented by the Ministry’s Acting Permanent Secretary, Muhammad Alhaji Ibrahim, welcomed the visitors.

He affirmed the state government’s readiness to partner with organizations driving positive development initiatives.

The Commissioner also appealed to all citizens, both Christians and Muslims,  to keep promoting peaceful coexistence and channel their thoughts to ideas that can drive peace, harmony, and socio-economic development in Kano and across Nigeria.
