The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has apprehended 49  suspects linked to various drug-related offences during a major operation in Kano on August 7 and 8, 2025.

The crackdown led to the recovery of substantial quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, pregabalin, diazepam, codeine syrup, rohypnol, “suck and die,” rubber solution, and locally made weapons.

The operation targeted key locations known for drug-related activities, including Massallacin Idi, Fagge Plaza, Kofar Mata, Kofar Wambai, Kofar Dan’agundi, Makabartar Dan’agundi, Ladanai, Zage, and Tashar Rimi at Rimi Market.

In an effort to address the rising number of incidents, loss of life, and property damage associated with drug use, the command also raided Kano Line Motor Park and Tashar Rami Motor Park, both located in Na’ibawa, resulting in the arrest of over 15 suspects.

The actions are part of the Kano Strategic Command’s initiative to dismantle drug joints and disrupt the networks of known drug dealers operating within the state.

Since the elevation of the NDLEA’s operations to a strategic command level, there has been a notable increase in the effectiveness and scope of efforts to combat drug-related crimes.

A Statement by Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Public Relations Officer, Kano Strategic Command, “under the leadership of ACGN AI Ahmad, the command is committed to intensifying operations to ensure that those involved in drug trafficking are brought to justice.

” We extend our deepest appreciation to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa, whose unwavering support and visionary leadership have been instrumental in these achievements. His commitment to a drug-free society empowers our team to pursue our mission with renewed vigor.

“We urge individuals engaged in these illegal activities to reconsider their choices, as we will not relent in our pursuit of a drug-free society. The NDLEA remains dedicated to protecting the public from the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that offenders are held accountable. An investigation is currently underway to ensure that justice is served on all those involved.”
