The Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Hon Oludotun Taiwo, has affirmed that the man who was killed by an elephant in Imobi in Ijebu East was there to evacuate trees which he had initially cut down in the forest.
Oludotun, during a phone interview with our correspondent, noted that he had been to the community with his team, but the residents were hostile to them, so they went to the family’s house and consoled them.
He said: “We have been to the community but the residents were hostile to us, so we went to the man’s family to console them”.
“He went to the forest with his children to evacuate logs which he had cut down. In nature, elephants usually walk in groups, so when the children saw them, they all ran away, and the man was still waiting to take out his knife. That was when the elephant attacked him.
Anyways, we have been there to console with the family.”
