Prince Emmanuel Aderosoye Fadola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) leading aspirant for Member, House of Representatives, Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Ondo State, has mulled the idea of true federalism, a suggestion, he argues, will be good for the polity.

The aspiring lawmaker gave this advise as part of his goodwill message on the occasion of June 12, the nation’s Democracy Day.

In a statement personally signed by him, Fadola noted matter-of-factly that “Since the advent of the Fourth Republic in 1999, our democratic experience has not yet delivered the scale of transformation and development required to propel our nation toward true prosperity and national growth.”

According to him, “A critical element of a thriving democracy is true federalism—a system in which power is shared among the federal, state, and local governments. This foundational principle, regrettably absent in full measure from our current constitutional framework, is vital to the effective separation of powers and the equitable distribution of resources.”

Federalism, he maintained, “ensures that governance is decentralised, communities are empowered to make decisions that reflect their unique needs, and the concentration of power is avoided. It also facilitates a more responsive and locally relevant justice system.”

The proper implementation of federalism would significantly enhance legislative effectiveness, promote inclusivity by encouraging the emergence of credible, competent, and integrity-driven leaders, and reinforce the political structure and unity of our country, he stressed.

Expatiating, he said, federalism would also enable the continuity of sound government policies, strengthen public institutions, and increase transparency and accountability.

“My belief in Nigeria’s socio-economic sovereignty remains firm and unshakable. I am a strong advocate for the unity and progress of one Nigeria.

“It is encouraging to witness the current administration’s renewed commitment to redefining our national identity and unlocking the future potential of our people.

“The Renewed Hope Initiative has, within a short period, made significant strides in addressing the long-standing leadership challenges that have hindered our development. This administration has demonstrated resolve in confronting deeply entrenched issues such as inadequate infrastructure and various socio-economic deficits.

“Let us all continue to work together in building a Nigeria where democracy delivers not only political representation but also tangible improvements in the lives of every citizen.”
