To ensure transparency and accountability in the business of governance, Kano State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has concluded plans to introduce a citizens engagement forum tagged “Kano Citizens Platform” to facilitate direct interaction between government functionaries and the public.

Waiya disclosed this while addressing executive members of the Association of Online Media Guild, who paid a courtesy visit to his office.

He said the platform is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to transparency, openness and accountability in running the affairs of the state.

Waiya further disclosed that  “the programme is expected to be launched by the governor himself where citizens will be allowed to interact with him directly.”

He also told the online media guild that, “in line with Governor Abba Yusuf’s commitment to boosting rapport and mutually beneficial relationship with journalists in the state, the Ministry will provide training and technology support to online media as an encouragement to carry out their professional duties.”

Waiya called for partnership to fight fake news, misinformation and disinformation in the media circle for the benefit of society while underscoring the power of the media in building and destroying a society.

He assured the Guild that the Ministry was ready to collaborate with it to wipe out quacks from the profession.
