A renowned. Civil Society Organization (CSO) leader, Ambassador Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has been given the portfolio of Kano state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Ambassador Waiya was sworn-in at the Ante Chamber, Government House, on Monday, alongside other newly appointed Commissioners and Special Advisers.
He succeeded a former President of Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), Baba Halilu Dantiye, who was relieved of his duty by Governor Yusuf.
Immediate-past Chief of Staff to the Governor,, Shehu Wada Shagagi was assigned to the Ministry of Investment, Commerce and Industry; Ismail Aliyu occupies the Ministry of Finance; Gazzadi Shehu was assigned to Ministry of Power.
Dahiru Hashim is to man the Ministry of Environment; Abdulkadir Abdulsalam manages the Ministry of Rural and Community Development, while Nura Maaji was moved to the Ministry of Public Procurement.
A mammoth crowd of family, friends and relatives of the new Commissioners and other appointees were at Government House to witness their swearing-in.
Our Correspondent reports that, Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, a renowned activist and Civil Society leader was recently decorated as a Fellow of the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies.
The prestigious award was conferred on him during the Security Excellence Award National Programme of the Investiture of Fellows, held at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, Abuja.
Ambassador Waiya, before his latest appointment was also the Executive Director of Citizens for Development and Education (CDE); Convener/Head of Secretariat of the Kano Peace Committee (KPC); and Convener of the Nigeria for Peace Project (N4P.)
