Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has renamed the State-owned Edo State University, Uzairue.

The University will henceforth be known as Edo State University, Iyamho.

The change of name was contained in a statement on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.

The two-paragraph statement said:

“It is hereby announced for the information of the General Public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo has approved the change of the name of ‘Edo State University, Uzairue,’ to now be known as ‘Edo University, Iyamho’ with immediate effect.

“Accordingly, all documentation in respect of the Institution henceforth shall reflect the above change.”

TheNEWS reports that the University was named Edo State University, Iyamho by former Governor of the State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole who founded it in his home village, Iyamho.

Immediate past Governor Godwin Obaseki, however, changed it to Edo State University, Uzairue.
