Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the state capital, was a beehive of activities today. Reason: Governor Godwin Obaseki has officially left power after the expiration of his two terms.

His successor, Senator Monday Okphebholo was officially sworn sworn-in as the governor of Edo State, while Dennis Idahosa also took the oath of office as the Deputy Governor of the State.

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, led the Federal Government’s delegation to the inauguration of Senator Monday Okpebholo, as the fifth democratically elected governor of Edo State.

His predecessors are Chief John Odigie Oyegun, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Mr Godwin Obaseki.

Other dignitaries at the swearing-in ceremony included governors across the country, who were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), namely, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Hope Uzodinma of Imo, and Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto among others.

Also present were the National Chairman of the APC, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje and his predecessor, now Senator Adams Oshiomhole at the event held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.

Okpebholo who was accompanied by his two daughters, took the oath of office and allegiance administered by the Chief Judge of the State, Honourable Justice Daniel Okungbowa.

The Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa who was accompanied by his wife, had earlier subscribed to relevant oaths.
