Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, addressed protesters in front of Government House Port Harcourt and commended their peaceful disposition.

Our correspondent reports that the protesters rejected the governor’s promise to give them money to buy water and transportation regarding the offer as embarrassing.

Protesters gathered at the Rivers state government house, they marched from Pleasure Park along Aba road and made a stop at the Federal government Secretariat as well as the GRA junction.

Our correspondent reports that there is a heavy presence of security personnel who are providing security for the protesters.

As early as 9 am, scores of protesters chanting ‘We are hungry,’ ‘President we are dying” had gathered at Pleasure Park along Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway way as they marched past Garrison Junction axis are now gathered at the Government House, Port Harcourt awaiting Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Governor had commended them for their peaceful disposition so far as they vent their anger over the economic situation in the country.

It was observed that there were no roadblocks in place and the traffic was free on the major roads.

However, protesters are actively marching through the village, holding placards to voice their concerns.

Our Correspondent reports that Students of the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, who did not participate were seen rushing to attend their lectures as studies were in session.

At the ever-busy Rumuokoro market in Obio-Akpor local government area, the businesses were active, while some banks in Port Harcourt did not open today due to the nationwide protest.

In addition to the protest, some banks had difficulty attending to customers due to poor networks from telecom providers.

A top official official mentioned that while staff have been instructed to come to work, they might not open to the public until they assess the situation.

Our Correspondent reports that there has been a heavy presence of security at major road junctions and strategic locations. There had not been reported cases of violence at the time of filing this report.
