Armed robbery: 2 arrested, 2 fatally injured

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have foiled an armed robbery attempt on residents of Ojo where a victim was shot dead.

The Lagos State Police Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana, said in a statement that the suspects were arrested after a distress call was made to the police.

“On March 19 at about 5 p.m., police received a distress call that a group of armed robbers, numbering about seven, on motorcycles were sighted entering Alhaji Gafaru street, Imude road and attempted to rob the residents of Gafaru street.

“Upon receipt of the information Police Anti Robbery Squad and Metro Patrol Teams were drafted to the scene. On sighting the Police, the armed robbers opened fire but were subdued by the superior fire power of our gallant teams.

“Two suspects namely Semiu Ibrahim (24) and Francis Obi (29) were arrested, while Chinozo Felix a.k.a Power (29) and Ifeanyi Uche, were fatally injured.

“Three Berreta pistols with three live ammunition and three expended ammunition were recovered. One unregistered Bajaj motorcycle was also recovered from the scene.

“Before the arrival of police, the robber shot the following persons Obinna Efenkandu (32) of No 124 Imude Gafaru bus stop who died on the spot, while Collins Ichu (26) and Abdullah Niger (40) of the same address sustained injuries.

“The injured persons were taken to hospital and receiving treatment,” he said.

The police spokesman said the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu, reiterated the Command’s readiness to deal decisively with hoodlums to make the state a difficult place for criminal activities.
