Osun Assembly passes N154bn 2019 budget

The Osun State House of Assembly on Thursday passed N154, 406,541,400 as appropriation bill for the state in the 2019 fiscal year.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun had presented a budget of N152, 756, 088, 830 tagged “Budget of Hope’’ before the State House of Assembly on Dec. 27, 2018.

However, the House, through its Finance and Appropriation Committee, after inviting MDAs to defend their budgets, added N1, 650,452,570 to the estimated envelop.

The Chairman, Finance and Appropriation Committee, Mr Kamil Oyedele, who read the findings and recommendations made by his committee, laid the report before the house, where lawmakers appraised the work done.

Mr Najeem Salaam, the Speaker of the House, while adopting the reports and recommendations of the committee, advised the governor to use the findings and recommendations as guidelines for appropriating funds and generating revenue for the state.

Salaam called on the government to look inwards and see how to generate revenue to implement the budget.

The speaker who also spoke on the coming general elections, equally advised his colleagues and politicians in the state not to see election as a do or die affair.

According to him, rather politicians should be focus on the development of their areas.

He said that election to political offices was a call to service from God and from the people, therefore calling on politicians not to force themselves into power.

He also urged youths in the state not to let themselves be used by desperate politicians and cautioned that their lives were precious to their families.
