The Cradle of Yoruba race, known as Ile-Ife Kingdom, Osun, on Tuesday night recorded the first rain of the year, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The rain started at 8:30p.m. and lasted for over two hours.

Though, the rain was not heavy at initial stage, it stopped by 8:57p.m, but at 9:43 p.m. it started again heavily.

The rainfall was gentle without attracting wind nor destroy any property.

Mr Taye Adewuyi, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), appreciated God for giving the ancient town the grace to witness the first rain in 2019.

Adewuyi said that people have been praying and waiting for the rain to fall, because the heat was becoming too much to bear.

“We, Ife indigenes, acknowledged the goodness of the Almighty God for giving us rain as and when due, we have been praying to God to release rain for us as soon as possible, for the heat was becoming unbearable.

“Whenever am going out, I always look for lighter clothe to put on because of the heat, even the sun was very hot and unbearable.

“We believe that in as much as it’s raining so early this year, we will have bountiful harvest, so farmers should be glad and prepare for farming,” he said.

NAN reports that streets in Ile-Ife that experienced the first rain were: Kosere, Ilode, Enuwa, Opa, Road 7, Campus area, Lagere, Parakin, Mayfair and Iremo among others.
