A 50-year-old man, Olusola Ojewole, who allegedly cut his wife’s hand with cutlass, was on Thursday remanded in Agodi Prison by an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulateef Adebisi, said that the accused would be in prison custody until Dec. 27 when the case would come up for mention.

Adebisi, however, did not take the plea of the accused.

Ojewole of Iyana Apapa area, Moniya, Ibadan, is facing a count charge of an attempt to kill his wife.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Opeyemi Olagunju, had told the court that on Nov. 4 at about 12 noon, the accused attempted to kill Dorcas Olusegun by cutting her left hand with a cutlass, resulting in a deep cut.

“ Ojewole alleged that Dorcas stole N13, 000 he kept in his room, but the complainant denied taken his money.

“The matter later leads to fisticuffs between the couple which prompted Dorcas to flee to a co-tenant room.

“She thought the accused has gone, but as she opened her neighbour’s door, the accused attacked her and cut her hand with cutlass,’’ Olagunju said.

He said that the money was later found in the couple’s room after the assault.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 320 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State 2000.
